About the Directorate of Labour
The tasks of the Directorate of Labour include:
Keep a list of available jobs, share it with job seekers and help with hiring.
Register the unemployed and arrange for the calculation and payment of unemployment benefits.
Organize employment market resources such as courses, counselling and rehabilitation, based on the individual needs of job seekers.
Counseling and supporting individuals with reduced working capacity.
Collect and disseminate information on employment, unemployment and the future prospects of industries.
Issuing of work permits and registration of foreigners on the Icelandic labour market.
Provide services to applicants for international protection and provide coordinated services in the reception of refugees.
Assist refugees in seeking employment.
Management and decision making regarding payments to parents on maternity/paternity leave, payments of adoption grants and provides information regarding parental leave.
