Calculation of average price of the fisheries resource rent
The Directorate of Fisheries has completed the calculation of weighted average price for the main fish species in accordance with the Act on amendments to the Act on fisheries resource rent.
The results will form the basis for determining the fisheries resource rent for the next fiscal year.
Calculated average price for the year 2026
Cod: 447.72 ISK/kg
Haddock: 238.82 ISK/kg
Blue whiting: 46.07 ISK/kg
Mackerel: 180.08 ISK/kg
Herring: 92.91 ISK/kg
Calculation assumptions and definitions
The calculations are based on data from the Fresh Fish Price Directorate, the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, and landing data from the Directorate of Fisheries.
For cod and haddock, the price is based on the price of catch landed at fish markets over a 12-month period, according to information from the Fresh Fish Price Directorate.
For pelagic species (mackerel, blue whiting, herring), the average price is based on official data from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries. The value is weighted based on the catch volume of Icelandic vessels in the months when fishing takes place.
For a month to be considered as a part of the fishing season, the catch for that month must be at least 4.17% of the total catch for the species. This criteria is based on the assumption that if fishing were distributed evenly throughout the year, each month would account for approximately 8.33% of the total catch, and the fishing obligation would be half of that. This is done to ensure that only months with significant fishing activity are included.
Further information on data collection principles for the calculations can be found in the appendix Calculation of Weighted Average Price.
