The Icelandic language test for applicants for Icelandic citizenship will begin on Monday 12th of May 2025.
24th January 2025
The Icelandic language test for citizenship took place from November 18 to December 2. Of the 492 participants who took the test, 84% met the basic Icelandic language requirements for citizenship. The test was conducted in 24 sessions across Reykjavík, Akureyri, Egilsstaðir, and Ísafjörður. This year saw a record number of participants.

We are now planning to renew English language teaching material for teenagers and therefore we are calling for English teachers at that level to be part of a working group. The task of the working group will be to submit proposals for the creation of new teaching material in cooperation with the editor.

GraphoGame was originally designed with the needs of students with reading problems in mind. The prgram comes from a Finnish origin. It's design was influenced by reasearch made by the University of Jyväskylä.

We are exploding from pride in the project Orð eru ævintýri, a new tool for enhancing literacy among preschool children. Last year, Orð eru ævintýri was published and given to children born in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Now we have improved and brought the book to all children born in 2021.

The Ministry of Education and Children has now entrusted the Directorate of Education and School Services to provide the provision, updating and supervision of electronic manuals that address the safety and welfare of children in pre- and primary schools. These manuals provide guidance and support to school staff in the preparation of safety manuals, safety plans and response plans for pre-schools.

The conference is now being shortened to an extremely interesting literacy conference at the Centre for Education and the Centre for School Development at the University of Iceland, which will take place on Saturday 14 September.
2nd September 2024
The staff of the Directorate of Education and School Services is currently reviewing the reading proficiency tests that are being given to students in primary schools, and most of them are familiar with them. The review will take place in several steps, but the first change is that this September, students in grades 4 and 5 will take the same test, grades 6 and 7 will take the same test, and there will be one test for the junior level.

This is a temporary and limited project that could last for about eight weeks, September-October 2024. This time we will be looking for supporting material for the subjects Icelandic, natural sciences and foreign languages (Danish and English). Project group will be set up for each subject.
