The Directorate of Education and School Services

The National Curriculum Guides for preschools, compulsory schools, upper secondary schools, music schools and schools of artistic dance are issued by the Ministry of Education and Children. The National Curriculum Guides set out the objectives and framework for school activities nationwide and further specify the provisions of legislation relating to subjects and fields of learning.

Icelandic upper secondary schools offer education in a credit or class system, which provides preparation for further studies or vocational qualifications.

One of the roles of the Directorate of Education and School Services is to publish learning materials that support students in their studies and assist teachers in their work.
