Primary course (Frumnámskeið) for smaller sizes of working machines

After completing the course
Completion of this course is required to obtain a license on smaller work machines. After that, a practical training and then a practical exam takes place. The course provides theoretical qualifications for:
Forklift trucks with a lifting weight up to 10 tons – category J
Tractors with equipment and the smaller types of earthmoving machines (4t and smaller) – category I
Basket cranes and concrete pumps– category D
Steamrollers– category L
Paving machines for road surfaces – category M
Loading cranes mounted on vehicles with lifting capacity of up to 18 tm – category P
About the course
When is the course available?
The course is available throughout the year. It opens when the student registers and is open for eight weeks from registration.
Organisation of studies
The course takes place online, in the education system of the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health in Iceland. Students can therefore study wherever and whenever it suits them. It takes approximately 15-18 hours to complete the course.
Study material
The first chapters of the course cover occupational health and safety issues, physics, hydraulics, mechanics, batteries and safety during excavation. The chapters that follow deal with individual categories of work machines and more related to them.
Tests
The course ends with a written multiple-choice test. The tests are held at the establishments of Administration of Occupational Safety and Health or at partners. A valid photo ID must be shown before taking the test.
At the end of the course, students can choose the date and location for the written test. That choice can be changed with hours notice.
Languages
The course is in Icelandic, English and Polish. You can choose the language in the course itself after registration.
