It may be extended for another five years if the certificate holder completes a refreshing course and passes the final exam within 12 months of the certificate's expiration.
Refreshing courses for packaged goods (basic) and tank transport are offered online through the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health’s (AOSH) learning platform. The courses are open to participants for eight weeks after registration and take approximately 3–5 hours to complete.
Refreshing courses for explosives and/or radioactive materials are conducted via remote learning using the Teams online meeting system.
All courses conclude with an exam, taken at the AOSH regional offices.
To renew qualifications for the transport of dangerous goods in tanks and/or explosives and/or radioactive materials, the participant must already hold valid qualifications for packaged goods transport (basic course).

Digital ADR Certificates
Digital ADR certificates are available for all drivers qualified to transport dangerous goods and who hold a smartphone. These certificates serve as proof to the police that the vehicle operator holds valid ADR qualifications. They contain the same information as traditional physical ADR certificates.
The digital certificates are valid only in Iceland. They are available for Android and iOS users but can only be installed on one device at a time. If installed on a new phone, the certificate will automatically deactivate on the previous device.
