Moped

Light motorcycles are motor vehicles having two, three or four wheels, both electric and petrol driven. Mopeds are divided into two categories, based on the design speed of the motorcycle.

  • Category I - have a design speed of up to 25 km/h.

  • Class II - have a design speed of up to 45 km/h

Both categories of mopeds must comply with the same requirements. The only difference is the design speed of the bike.

  • In order to define the moped category to which it belongs, registration data from the manufacturer on the maximum design speed should be available.

  • When a category I moped is imported outside the EEA territory using the unit of measurement, miles per hour, but not km per hour, miles per kilometre have to be converted in order to establish the maximum design speed.
