Lumpfish fishing

Catch performance can be transferred between fishing vessels provided that conditions are met.

Conditions

• If the owner of a vessel that is to receive lumpfish allocation according to the Directorate of Fisheries estimate has made changes in vessel fleet (bought, sold or removed a vessel from the Icelandic Transport Authority's vessel register) in 2018 or later.

• The owner of the vessel which catch performance is transferred from and owner of the vessel which catch performance is transferred to must agree to the transfer by signing a form prepared for this purpose.

• A new mortgage certificate, no older than 30 days, of vessel which catch performance is transferred from must be attached.

• If the vessel which catch performance is transferred from is mortgaged, the mortgagee's notarized consent for the transfer of catch performance is required.

• The vessel which catch performance is transferred to is registered as a fishing vessel with the Icelandic Transport Authority.

• The transfer of catch performance can not result in an allocation to fishing vessels owned by individual parties or by related parties of a higher percentage than 1.5% of total allocation of lumpfish.

Note

• There does not need to be a provision in the purchase agreement/ship transfer that catch performance, permit or rights do not accompany the sale of the vessel.

• The size restrictions that previously applied to transfer of rights between vessels do not apply.

• The vessel which catch performance is transferred from and the vessel which it is transferred to do not have to be in the same fishing system, as in, catch quota or hook and line catch quota.

• The vessels which catch performance is being transferred between do not have to be registered at home port in the same fishing area.

Form for the catch performance transfer must be submitted to the Directorate of Fisheries together with necessary supporting documents no later than 2nd of January 2025 to fiskistofa@fiskistofa.is.
