Kilometer fee on vehicles temporarily imported to Iceland

A fee must be paid for vehicles authorized by customs for temporary use in Iceland.

The fee is based on the weight of the vehicle and the length of stay. For shorter stays, a fixed fee is charged, while for longer stays, the fee is based on the distance driven in the country.

The responsibility for payment lies with the person who receives the authorization.

Registration and payment

Upon arrival

• The vehicle's odometer reading must be logged.

• Vehicles under 10 tons: A fixed driving fee is paid based on the estimated length of stay. The driving fee is a full payment for vehicles that are in the country for 30 days or less.

The person who booked the transportation of a vehicle to Iceland will receive an email and/or SMS from customs with instructions on registration and payment of the fee.

Upon departure

• The odometer reading must be logged upon leaving the country.

• Vehicles under 10 tons: If the vehicle has been in the country for more than 30 days, a kilometer fee based on the distance driven must be paid. The fixed driving fee already paid is deducted from the amount.

• Vehicles that are 10 tons or heavier: A kilometer fee based on the distance driven must be paid.

Fee

Stay of 30 days or less

A fixed driving fee must be paid upon or before arrival in the country.

The driving fee is determined by the estimated length of stay.

Stay longer than 30 days

If a vehicle remains in the country for more than 30 consecutive days, a kilometer fee must be paid upon departure based on the distance driven.

The driving fee paid upon arrival in the country will be deducted. The kilometer fee cannot be lower than the fixed driving fee based on a stay of 21 days or longer.
