Speed limits for vehicles

In general

It is agaisnt the law to drive faster than the speed limit.

Police may always stop drivers for speeding.

Speed limits

Road signs indicate the maximum speed in each area.

The common speed limits ar:

  • 30 to 50 kilometers per hour in urban areas,

  • 80 kilometers per hour on gravel roads,

  • 90 kilometers per hour on paved roads outside urban areas.

Drivers must always adjust their speed to fit the current conditions and traffic.

Speed cameras

Speed cameras are placed across the country in areas where speeding and accidents are common. They automatically take pictures of vehicles that go over the speed limit. A ticket is then sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.

A fine from a speed camera is sent to the vehicle's registered owner.
