The Icelandic Transport Authority: Registration plates
If I import a car/vehicle, can I drive the car/vehicle around on foreign license plates?
This is generally not allowed; in some cases customs gives authorisation to do so, e.g. if the person in question has imported the car/vehicle to Iceland themselves.
