Do both parents have to agree to the issuance of a passport for children?

When applying for a passport for a child under the age of 18, both guardians must always agree to the issuance of the passport. If there is only one registered guardian, his consent is sufficient for the issuance of the passport.

Approval for the issuance of a passport for children under 18 years of age is granted through a digital application or filling out a form at the Commissioner's office, then both guardians must attend to the location and sign a form for approval of the issuance of a child's passport. If consent is given outside the Commissioner's office, two witnesses must attest to the guardian's signature on the form.

When child is brought to a photo shoot, guardians must in all cases present a valid ID (passport, Icelandic driver's license or identity card), if the child has previously received a passport, it must also be presented at the application point.
