District Commissioners: Licenses
What is an International Driving Permit?
An International Driving Permit is a booklet containing a translation of the Icelandic driving licence. Icelandic driving licences are European and are valid in all EU/EEA countries. If you are travelling outside the EU/EEA, we recommend having an international driving licence with you.
All District commissioners in Iceland and the Icelandic Automobile Association (FÍB) can issue international driving permits for holders of Icelandic driving licences. Applicants must come in person and be 18 years of age or older. They must have with them their Icelandic licence and one printed passport sized photo (35x45 mm).
The permit costs ISK 1,200 at the District commissioner's office and is issued in one working day.
