What documents must be submitted in the original with a residence permit application?
Application forms for first residence permits must be submitted in the original as well as documents on means of financial support, and applications for work permits and employment contracts.
The following foreign documents must be submitted as a legally authenticated original or as certified copies of the legally authenticated original, when applicable:
With an application for a residence permit for a spouse:
Marriage certificate, for a marital spouse.
Marriage status certificate, for a cohabiting spouse.
With an application for a residence permit for a child:
Birth certificate.
Marriage status certificate, if the child is 16 years or older.
Documents confirming custody (custody documents, divorce documents or death certificates).
Consent of the other custodial parent, if the child has two custodial parents and is joining one of the custodial parents in Iceland.
With an application for a residence permit for parents aged 67 or older:
Birth certificate of the applicant's child that he/she wishes to join in Iceland.
With an application for a residence permit for parents of children under the age of 18:
Birth certificate of the applicant's child that he/she wishes to join in Iceland.
Documents confirming custody (custody documents, divorce documents or death certificates).
If the foreign documents listed above are in a language other than English or a Nordic language, a certified copy or original of the translation by a certified translator must also be submitted. If a translation has been produced by a translator which has not been legally certified in Iceland, the original of the translation must be legally authenticated.
