You renew your residence permit digitally online. It is necessary to apply for renewal before your current permit expires.

Note that this application can only be used to renew an existing residence permit. It cannot be used if you wish to apply for a residence permit on another basis, for example if you hold a student's permit but wish to apply for a residence permit on the basis of employment.

It is necessary to have an electronic certificate to complete the application.

The fee for a residence permit renewal is ISK 16,000.
