In September 2023 citizenship applications received in September 2022 were being processed. This means that it takes around 12 months to get an answer to an application for Icelandic citizenship. It may take longer if documents or information is missing.

If your application is older than those being processed according to the information page, you can contact the Directorate and ask for information.
