The aim of the grant is to strengthen cybersecurity and defenses against attacks.
Applicants need to be either small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), or public organizations. Grants can be as much as ISK15 million, and a matching contribution of at least 20% of the entire project budget is required.
The project's time frame is stated for each application deadline, typically projects take from six to nine months. This grant falls under rules regarding small-scale assistance (de minimis). In order for an application to be considered, its connection with the goal of cybersecurity must be clear. The project needs to be well-defined, and its timeline as well.
Who can apply?
small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) , and public organizations regardless of size. See the EU definition of SMEs:
Medium-sized company: fewer than 250 employees, and an annual turnover of under 50 million euros, or a balance sheet under 43 million euros.
Small company: fewer than 50 employees, and annual turnover or balance sheet under 10 million euros.
Micro company: fewer than 10 employees, and annual turnover or balance sheet under 2 million euros.

Applications are made through the Rannís digital application portal. The application can be made in Icelandic or English. Each application must contain the following:

Applications can include a link to a video where the project is introduced. The video may not be longer than 5 minutes. Applicants may use platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, or others which are similar. The video must be accessible until the grant has been awarded.
Slideshow:
A maximum of ten slides (total including front cover, references etc.) created in PowerPoint or a similar program. The slideshow should be in PDF form when attached to the application. Files larger than 10MB are not acceptable. It's desirable that the slides be simple, clear, and to the point.
