Flight training, Private pilot

Priviledges of private pilots

The privileges of the holder of a PPL are to operate the aircraft types for which the holder has obtained privileges without taking payment for it.

To be able to carry passengers, pilots must have previously performed three take-offs and three landings in the last 90 days on the aircraft type. The privileges of a PPL are dependent upon the pilot also holding a medical certificate.

A private pilot is not allowed to

  • advertise flights

  • indicate in some way that he offers flights for passengers, aerial viewing or work for a fee.

All such activities are subject to licensing.

In private flights, however, the cost of the flight be divided, provided that one part of the cost is borne by the pilot himself. Such cost allocation must be able to be demonstrated to the Icelandic Transport Authority.
