Bilateral agreements on extended stay

On the basis of bilateral agreements, bona fide non-immigrants of the following countries are allowed to stay in Iceland for up to 3 months beyond the 90 days they are allowed to stay in the Schengen area.

  • Australia

  • Brazil

  • Canada

  • Chile

  • Israel

  • Japan

  • Malaysia

  • Mexico

  • New Zealand

  • South Korea

  • Uruguay

Applicants for residence permits may neither be in Iceland on the grounds of a bilateral agreement when applying nor while the application is being processed. The right to stay is forfeited if an application for a residence permit is submitted during a stay based on a bilateral agreement.
