Cervical cancer screening
Follow-up after hysterectomy
-Automatic translation
There are various reasons why individuals undergo a hysterectomy; therefore, the history of cervical screening should be reviewed to determine which screenings require recall by the Coordination Centre for Cancer Screening.
Individuals who undergo a hysterectomy and have no history of preoperative cytological changes (CIN2, CIN3 or AIS) or HPV infection before the procedure do not require follow-up.
Individuals who undergo a hysterectomy due to persistent HPV infection but have not been diagnosed with preoperative cytological changes (CIN2, CIN3 or AIS) before the hysterectomy and show no abnormalities in the postoperative histology of the uterus require no follow-up or screening after the hysterectomy.
Individuals who undergo a hysterectomy due to cervical abnormalities or who are found to have preoperative cytological changes (CIN2, CIN3, or AIS) on postoperative histology are advised to have a follow-up test 12 months after the procedure.
