Conditions
To be granted a permit, an applicant must have:
reached the age of 20 and not been deprived of autonomy.
not be in violation of the provisions of the general criminal law, alcohol law, drug law, weapons law or law on the protection, preservation and hunting of wild birds and wild mammals.
sufficient skills to carry a firearm, mentally sound and otherwise qualified to carry and possess a firearm.

Co-defendants receive a notification in a digital mailbox on Ísland.is for confirmation.
Course in the handling of firearms
A course in the handling of firearms is a condition for a firearms licence.
It is recommended to practice at an approved shooting range with guidance from a member of the relevant shooting club.
