Work for a child under 13 years of age

Children under 13 years of age are generally not permitted to take part in the labor market.

Children under 13 years of age may be recruited to take part in:

• cultural and artistic events

• sports activities

• advertising activities

Before children are hired in these fields, a work permit (only available in Icelandic) is required by the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health.

Working hours of children under 13 years of age

The working hours and workload of children shall be managed so as not to threaten:

• schooling

• health

• safety

The age and development of children must always be taken into special consideration when planning work.
