Work in two or more EEA countries
If you work in two or more EEA countries at the same time, for example if it is part of your job to be on business trips or work in international transport, you may have the right to choose whether you pay insurance in Iceland or in the country where the work is registered.
Employee
If you live in Iceland and work in more than one EEA country and your labor contribution is at least 25% in Iceland, you can apply to keep your social security in Iceland. It is independent of whether you work for an Icelandic or foreign employer and how many employers you have.
Self-employed
If you live in Iceland and run a self-employed business in two or more EEA countries, including at least 25% of the business in Iceland, you can apply to maintain your social security in Iceland. The scope of the business is assessed based on working hours, turnover, number of services provided and income.
You don't have to work in the same industry in different countries.
If you live abroad
If you do not live in Iceland and work in more than one EEA country, and your labour contribution is less than 25% in the country where you live, you can apply to keep your social security in Iceland if you:
work only with an Icelandic employer,
work for an Icelandic employer and have an additional job with another employer in the country of residence.
