Seal hunting
Seal hunting is prohibited in Iceland, whether this involves hunting at sea, rivers or lakes, except with special permission from the Directorate of Fisheries. The licence is granted for own use and is issued for each calendar year.
All sale and marketing of Icelandic seals and seal products is prohibited.
Application
Applications are advertised on 1st of September, with a deadline of 1st of October and are valid for the following calendar year.
The following information must be included in the application:
The area which the hunting is planned.
Which hunting method will be used.
Number of seals applied for to hunt
Information on the applicant's hunt over the past 5 years.
Property authorisation or agreement with the owner of the area in question.
