Safety of passengers on buses
Bus passengers shall be informed of the obligation to use their seat belts at the start of their journey, by the driver of the bus, the conductor or the conductor, or by audio or video recording.
All passengers on buses must use safety belts if they are present in the vehicle.
The driver shall ensure that a child under the age of three years travelling in a vehicle uses approved safety and protection equipment intended for children in accordance with his/her weight. However, a bus or coach is permitted to use the safety and protection equipment for children aged three years and older that is present in the vehicle.
In addition, buses shall be fitted with a pictogram containing graphic information on the obligation to use safety belts which can be clearly seen from all seats of the bus.
The Icelandic Transportation Authority has printed stickers bearing the symbol of the obligation to use seat belts. The stickers are available at inspection stations and in the dispatch of the Icelandic Transportation Authority.
