Wheel safety devices

• Lights must always be on when motorcycles are riding

• Tyres must have as much adhesion as possible. When cold, you can pay to have a pressure of up to 2 pounds below the manufacturer's instructions. If the tyres are too rigid, there is a risk of obstruction of the adhesion.

Safety clothing

Motorcyclists are often poorly visible and it is desirable to choose helmets and protective clothing in conspicuous colours or with reflection.

• Helmet must be well-seated on the head. The average lifetime of helmets is about five years and shorter if they have suffered knockdowns. Ensuring that these helmets are in accordance with ECE 22.05 standard.

• Protective clothing and guards must be strongly worn and must be inside or underneath the clothing, with armour reducing impact and serious injury. The equipment must be CE marked according to the following standards or equivalent:

  • Jackets, trousers and overalls - CE EN 13595

  • Backrests - CE EN 1621

• Winter gloves preferably with a good cover over the knuckles, suitable for Iceland all year. The gloves shall be checked to conform to CE EN 13594.

• Shoes and boots should be fitted with a rigid ankle to reduce the risk of an ankle fracture. The shoes or boots must be checked to conform to CE EN 13634 standard.

• Protective glasses shelter from dust and insects that can cause damage to the eyes. Such glasses often work like sunglasses and can increase safety in the presence of low sunlight. Care must be taken to ensure that the goggles comply with CE EN 1938 standard.

• The collarbone may shield the driver from a broken collarbone, along with reducing cooling and fatigue in the neck muscles.

• Kidney belts can reduce serious injury and damage to organs, preferably kidneys. Damage to the kidneys can occur most often when riding a motorcycle, but also when riding other motorcycles. The belts also provide support for the back and are suitable for those with back injuries.
