Sabbatical Fund for Teachers and Administrators at Upper Secondary Level
Rules and instructions
Study leave may consist of either full leave from work for up to one year or a reduction in work duties within that period, and/or payment of monthly salary for up to one year, or a proportional payment corresponding to the reduction in work duties, if applicable. The monthly salary for headmasters is determined according to the decision of the Salary Council regarding monthly wages without units. The employment fraction in the work contract determines salary payment, and the grant is therefore aligned with the employee’s work fraction at the school.
If permission is granted to use study leave for distance learning at a recognized educational institution or for training, e.g., related to technological development, without leave from work or reduction in duties, a grant may be provided to cover such expenses, including tuition fees and specified travel costs.
Applications
An application for study leave must include, among other things:
How the applicant intends to use the study leave and how it is expected to benefit their work.
Information about the educational institution where the study will take place. If it is not regular study but shorter courses, training, or other types of educational activities, a detailed description of the study plan must be provided.
Whether the applicant has previously received teacher study leave.
Justification from the headmaster for the application for continuing education leave for individual teachers, student and career counselors, or administrators applied for on behalf of the school.
Any other information the applicant considers relevant.
Applicants for study leave must inform the headmaster about their application.
Reporting
The recipient of study leave must submit a report on the use of the leave in Rannís’ administration system within six months of completing the leave, including information about their work and study activities during the leave. The report should be prepared in a format suitable for publication.
