Assessment and allocation

The Minister of Education and Children appoints a three-member Study Leave Committee, which makes recommendations to the minister regarding the allocation of study leave and grants. When reviewing applications, the committee shall seek the opinion of the headmaster and take into account, among other things:

  • The type of study the applicant intends to pursue and how it will benefit the relevant institution or the school system as a whole. Leave is primarily granted for studies related to the applicant’s professional field.

  • The professional experience of applicants applying in their own name.

  • A reasonable distribution among schools, subjects, school districts, and genders.

  • Justification from the headmaster for applications for leave for individual teachers, student and career counselors, or administrators submitted on behalf of the school.

In addition, when processing applications submitted by headmasters, the committee shall consider how the applicant’s study leave will benefit the school in the future.

Applications for the next school year must be processed before 15 December each year.
