Categories and Types of Restaurants
Restaurants are categorized based on the need for supervision and the environmental impact of their operations, such as operating hours, noise, and alcohol service.
Categories of Restaurants
Category 1: Establishment without alcohol service. (No district commissioner’s license required)
Category 2: Small-scale alcohol-serving establishments where the operations are not likely to cause disturbance, such as through loud music, and which do not require significant supervision or law enforcement.
Category 3: Large-scale alcohol-serving establishments, such as those with loud music, that require more supervision and/or law enforcement involvement.
Types of Restaurants
Restaurants are further divided into the following types based on their operations and services offered to customers. Each type can fall under more than one of the aforementioned categories, depending on the specific operations covered by the operating license:
Restaurant
A dining establishment offering a diverse range of food and beverages with full service. A person with adequate knowledge of service must be employed at the restaurant.
Entertainment Venue
A restaurant with regular entertainment activities offering a variety of food and/or drinks. This category also includes venues focused on alcohol service, guest dancing, music, and extended operating hours, with limited or no food service.
Dining Hall and service station
Establishments offering limited food and/or drink selections. Service is reduced, and customers may partially or fully serve themselves. This includes fast food outlets and snack kiosks with seating areas.
Catering and Takeaway Services
Establishments selling food for off-site consumption.
Café
A restaurant offering simple food and/or drinks, with a focus on refreshments. This includes bakeries with seating areas.
Pub
An establishment with limited service and simple or no food options, focusing on alcohol service and extended hours.
Event Halls
Spaces specifically outfitted and rented for various events, with or without food and/or drinks. This includes community centers, sports halls, aircraft hangars, and other non-commercial event venues that are rented out more than 12 times a year.
