Registering a vehicle back in use

Registering a vehicle back in use with a ticket

A vehicle that has been registered off the road may not be used until it has been re-registered and license plates or a valid inspection sticker are in place.

Registered off the road with a sticker

If a vehicle has been registered off the road with a sticker, you must:

  • Re-register it using the electronic notification above.

  • Obtain a new inspection sticker before using the vehicle.

Registered off the road with plate storage

Only the registered owner or custodian may collect the license plates.

  • Valid identification must be presented.

  • If another person collects the plates, a written authorization is required.

Note:
The vehicle must be insured and registered for use before number plates can be handed over.

If the vehicle does not have a valid periodic inspection, a one-week grace period may be granted to complete the inspection, unless the license plates were removed by the police. The owner must sign a declaration, and the driving permit must be registered and clearly displayed in the vehicle. Note that this permit does not prevent the imposition of a non-compliance fee at the turn of the month.

License plates removed by the police

Removed due to defects or inspection issues

  • The vehicle must be taken for inspection.

  • It may not be registered for use unless the inspection result is:

    • No remarks

    • Repairs required

  • License plates are reissued at the inspection station after inspection.

Removed due to lack of insurance

  • The vehicle must be insured before collecting the license plates.

Cost

There is no fee for re-registering a vehicle. However, all outstanding public charges related to the vehicle must be paid before license plates are issued.
