Processing certificate

When exporting catches or products from foreign vessels that have been processed in Iceland to Europe, a processing statement must be included.

Purpose of processing statement

A processing statement confirms that:

  • the catch was processed by a processing licence holder with a valid processing licence from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST)

  • the product being exported is processed from a catch that was accompanied by a valid catch certificate upon importation to Iceland.

Responsibility of importers and re-export to the EU

Importers of foreign fish products who intend to re-export products to the European Union (EU) market area must ensure that:

  • the seller of the catch provides a catch certificate for the catch upon importation to Iceland.

  • the catch certificate is stamped by the flag state of the fishing vessel.

Validation of a processing statement

To have a processing statement validated, you must:

  1. fill out a processing statement in accordance with the information on the catch certificate that accompanied the catch upon importation.

  2. send the completed processing statement along with a copy of the catch certificate to the email address vottord@fiskistofa.is

  3. an employee of the Directorate of Fisheries review the statement.

    • if the information is correct, a validated statement will be sent back by email

The certificate costs 9.300 ISK
