Residence permits for parents and children who applied for international protection in Iceland before 1 August 2021
Requirements
To be issued a residence permit for parents, who have been in Iceland since before 1 August 2021 for their and their children's applications for international protection, applicants must:
have applied for international protection in Iceland with their children, under the age of 18, before 1 August 2021, or
have applied for international protection in Iceland before 1 August 2021 and had a baby in Iceland while their application was being processed.
Applicants must also meet the following requirements:
still be in Iceland,
not be subject to a re-entry ban,
submit an application for a residence permit before 5 July 2023,
submit an insurance certificate, confirming that they have purchased a health insurance for themselves and their children
valid for six months from the date of the applicant's registration in Iceland
with a coverage of at least ISK 2000,000
from an insurance company authorized to operate in Iceland
not have an unresolved case in the criminal justice system where they are suspected or accused of criminal conduct, and
not serve or wait for a prison term.
The Directorate of Immigration gathers information from the prosecution authority and police in Iceland to confirm that the last two conditions are met.
