The basis for the development of coastal planning is laid down in the policy on marine and coastal planning, which is set out in the national planning policy.

The national planning policy lays down the areas where the coastal zone should be developed.

The action plan approved in May 2024, provides for the start of the work on coastal planning for Eyjafjörður and Skjálfandur.
