Collective schools for primary and preschool children from Grindavík were closed in the spring of 2023. The emphasis is on children attending schools as close as possible to their homes. Parents and guardians must therefore apply for schooling for their children in the municipality where they will live. In order to receive services in the municipality in which the family lives, it is generally required that the legal domicile be registered there.

Follow-up and support

The service team of the GRN emphasises, in collaboration with parents and the schools, that those children who need support in school will continue to receive it. Specific support is being worked on for those schools with children from Grindavík.

Psychological support for children

To that end, the Grindvíki Service Team offers psychosocial support for children and young people from Grindavík in the form of interviews and family counselling. It is expected that this assistance will continue for a while, even if Grindvíkingar relocates their legal domicile.
