The real estate company Þórkatla would like to draw the attention of applicants to the fact that a declaration of a housing association or a declaration of no housing association can be completed on the company's website on island.is.

This applies to applicants for multi-family houses, i.e. traditional multi-family houses, row houses and parlors. In order to be able to sign a purchase agreement for a property in a multi-family house, the above information must be available. According to Article 25 of the Act No. 24/1994 on Multi-family Houses, the seller must inform the buyer of the status of a housing association before the purchase agreement is made.

1. Occupational housing association

On the website of Þórkötlu on island.is, you can now fill in information about a building society. It is assumed that the treasurer or chairman of the building society will fill out the declaration and sign it for confirmation.

2. The depositary is responsible for the operation of the housing association

Many housing associations have purchased services from companies that manage the operations of housing associations. Information on the operations of the housing association can in those cases be obtained from the company in question. The company in question then issues a statement with the requested information which the seller uploads to the application area of island.is.

3. No housing association is active

If the property is covered by the Multi-Apartment Act, but no formal housing association is operated for the property, the seller is asked to tick such a declaration onto the application area of island.is and confirm the following:

The seller declares that there is no formal housing association for the property, the seller is not in debt to the same-owners and there are no planned or approved constructions for the joint property.
