The Icelandic Transport Authority reminds operators that commercial passenger transport by sea requires a licence, including sightseeing and excursion cruises offered in connection with the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026. This applies to various types of vessels used to carry passengers for payment, including sightseeing boats, fishing charter boats and other passenger vessels.

Licensing requirements are in place to help ensure the safety of passengers and crew and include requirements relating to safety equipment, insurance and manning.

The Icelandic Transport Authority reminds drone operators that all drone flights in Iceland are subject to applicable regulations, including operations related to the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026. Operators are encouraged to familiarise themselves with airspace restrictions, operational requirements and other applicable conditions before flying.

All drone operators and owners must be registered. Drone owners and operators in Iceland, as well as visitors from countries outside Europe, can register at flydrone.is.

Operators are encouraged to plan their operations so that they can be conducted within the Open Category whenever possible. If the planned operation requires authorisation, applications should be submitted well in advance, as processing times may take up to three months or longer.
