Drone and flight ban in the vicinity of the warship HMS Prince of Wales

Due to the arrival of the British warship HMS Prince of Wales, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police has requested the establishment of a no-fly zone for drones in the vicinity of the vessel.

The British warship HMS Prince of Wales will be within Icelandic territorial waters from 5 July through 13 July 2026. For security reasons, the operation of drones is prohibited within a 1,000‑metre radius of the warship while it is transiting in Icelandic territorial waters and while it is berthed at Grundartangi.
No altitude limitations apply to this restriction.
This drone ban is imposed pursuant to Article 3(d) of Regulation No. 1360/2024.
Furthermore, it is prohibited to operate helicopters and fixed‑wing aircraft at an altitude lower than 300 metres above the vessel while it is transiting into Icelandic territorial waters and while berthed at Grundartangi.
This flight restriction is imposed pursuant to Article 230(1) of the Aviation Act.

All flights conducted by law enforcement authorities, as well as aircraft operations originating from the vessel, are exempt from these restrictions.
