By Act No. 53/2024, temporary authorizations for the use of teleconferencing devices in the conduct of civil and criminal proceedings before a court were made permanent. On November 1st, new guidelines for the judicial administration of the courts on teleconferencing will take effect.
The Act No. 53/2024 made temporary authorizations for the use of teleconferencing devices in the conduct of civil and criminal proceedings in court permanent. In parallel, the Courts Authority was charged with the establishment of guidelines for teleconferencing, including for the reporting of court proceedings. On November 1st, new guidelines for the Courts Authority on teleconferencing in court will take effect. The rules are intended to promote increased efficiency and practicality in the conduct of court proceedings by using teleconferencing devices where appropriate and with respect to basic principles of public and fair procedure. The rules are also intended to ensure a consistent conduct of teleconferencing and to promote equality for all before the courts. The rules set out the considerations that the judge must consider when assessing whether he or she decides to have a teleconference or to allow the reporting through teleconferencing devices and these objectives are laid out as a basis.
