Nordic judges’ conference in Reykjavík

A conference on active management of civil cases was organised by SEND (Samvinnustofnun för Efterutbildning av Nordens Domare) in Reykjavik, 6 - 8 May. A number of different perspectives, including those of lawyers, were discussed and how the future might look with more technological development and artificial intelligence.

Conference organised by SEND (Samarbetsorganet för Efterutbildning av Nordens Domare) was held in Reykjavik from 6 - 8 May. The main topic of the conference was „aktiv sakstyring“, how to promote swift procedure in the courts and how the future might look with greater technological development and artificial intelligence.

The conference was attended by around 50 judges from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Finland as well as Iceland. The conference was led by Hervör Þorvaldsdóttir, President of the Court of Appeal. The conference was organised by the Judical Administration and the District Judge, Hildur Briem who is also on the board of SEND organisation.

The conference was a success and the participants agreed on the importance of meeting, discussing and learning about common issues.

The SEND has organised and held seminars for judges in the Nordic countries since 1989. The SEND aims to work together to develop the training and continuing education of judges based on the common Nordic legal tradition. The SEND aims to train judges in their roles as well as the judges and other managers in their work.
