Guðrún Sesselja Arnardóttir appointed district court judge

The Minister of Justice has appointed Guðrún Sesselja Arnardóttir as a district court judge with the first position at the District Court of Reykjavík, as of 1 September 2023.
The Minister of Justice has appointed Guðrún Sesselja Arnardóttir as a district court judge with the first position at the District Court of Reykjavík, as of 1 September 2023.
Guðrún Sesselja completed a diploma in law from the University of Iceland in 1996 and acquired the right to speak before the District Court in 2000 and the Supreme Court of Iceland in 2009. Since the beginning of 2015, she has worked as a lawyer at the Office of the State Attorney, where she previously worked at a law firm in 2002-2014.
In her legal career Guðrún Sesselja has brought a large number of cases, both civil and criminal, before all courts in Iceland, as well as being involved in legal representation before the European Court of Human Rights. For other work, she worked for the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in 1997-2002 and was a member of the Southwest electoral commission in 2013-2017. She has also taught law at an Icelandic university, as well as courses on obtaining legal representation before a district court.
