The goal of The Communication Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SHH) is to make it possible for individuals to use Icelandic Sign Language for communication in the Icelandic society.
The role of the Communication Center is to conduct research and teaching in Icelandic Sign Language, provide information, counselling and interpreting services.
Sign language interpreting
Individuals who use Icelandic Sign Language for communication in their daily lives, have the right to get sign language interpretation in their interaction with official institutions and businesses.
Sign language teaching
Any individual who needs to use sign language shall have the opportunity to learn and use Icelandic sign language as soon as language acquisition begins, or immediately after deafness, hearing impairment or combined visual and hearing impairment has been detected. Family members have the same right.

SHH service survey
Every year the Communication Centre participates in the service survey among state institutions. The survey can be answered on the web, but is also sent by e-mail to the Comunication Centre’s customers.

SHH myndsímatúlkun
Through the app SHH myndsímatúlkun you can get interpretation of a conversation via webcam and phone from 10.00 to 14.00 on every weekday.
The app is available in App Store and Play Store.
