The workplace

The National Archives strives to be an attractive workplace, based on a strong and versatile employee base. The museum employs nearly 50 people.

The National Archives of Iceland emphasizes that its staff should enhance their knowledge and education through various means and have opportunities to grow and thrive in their work. The institution aims to be a leader in document preservation and management, consistently working toward progress through purposeful changes and forward-thinking. Currently, significant transformations are underway in the National Archives’ operations, with a focus on digital transformation, secure preservation, accessibility, and sustainability

The National Archives of emphasizes a policy of equality, based on equal opportunities, tolerance, flexibility and work-life balance. The National Archives equal pay system, which was first certified in 2019, is regularly audited by a certified auditors.

At the National Archives, the well-being and welfare of staff are prioritized. Efforts are made to create a healthy and positive work environment. Employees have access to good facilities and a family-friendly workplace, and a 36-hour workweek has been implemented. Regular health assessments and wellness support are provided, and the workplace actively participates in public health initiatives such as Lífshlaupið (a health program) and Hjólað í vinnuna (cycling to work). The National Archives operates in accordance with sustainable practices within the framework of state administration and encourages the use of environmentally friendly transportation methods

The employees’ association of the National Archives, STAÞÍ, organizes regular events of various kinds.
