About the National Archives

The National Archives is the nation’s archives and the public has access to the library, both on the website and in the reading room. The National Archives preserves the largest collection of original sources on the history of the Icelandic nation and development of the country’s settlements and life and is therefore the foundation on which research, administration and human rights are based.
