Medication infusion
Preparation for Medication Treatment (arrival to the Rheumatology Day Clinic)
If you
have an infection before your scheduled medication, contact the department immediately.
are sick or on antibiotics, contact the department to postpone your medication. Do not use an injection pen.
cannot make your scheduled appointment, please inform the department.
Only specialized medication administration takes place at the department.
Bring entertainment, a snack, and, if you wish, your own coffee pods (a Nespresso machine is on-site).
It's a good idea to bring a pillow and blanket for longer treatments.
Set your phone to silent. If you need to make a call, please step outside.
If you need an escort, contact the department in advance.
Please respect the privacy of other patients.
Upon Arrival at the Day Clinic
Check in by entering your national ID number at the kiosk in the Eiríksstaðir lobby.
Wait in the waiting room until you are directed inside.
A staff member will greet you and guide you to your medication administration.
Medication Administration Process
Your vital signs will be measured, and you will answer a health questionnaire. Medication duration (varies per individual):
Cyclophosphamide: 3-4 hours
Infliximab (Remicade, Flixabi, Remsima): 3.5 hours for the first four administrations, then 1–2.5 hours thereafter.
Immunoglobulin (Octagam, Gamunex): 2 to 6 hours
Orencia: 1 to 1.5 hours
Rituximab (Ruxience): 3.5 to 7 hours
Roactemra: 1.5 hours
Vaccinations
Annual influenza vaccinations are recommended, and pneumococcal vaccination is also advised.
There is no need to consider the timing between medication administration and vaccination.
Those on biologic medications should not receive live vaccines, including MMR, cholera, and yellow fever.
