Rehabilitation unit for patients aged 67 and older who have sustained a hip fracture and undergone surgery
The goal of rehabilitation is to improve mobility, increase safety, and support independence in daily activities. Patients are encouraged to take part in self-care and participate in everyday tasks and meals.
Patients are responsible for their own training, take part in daily walks, and complete exercises assigned by their therapists. It is important to make good use of the rehabilitation offered and to practice several times a day.
Patients are referred for necessary examinations, and consultations with other specialists at Landspítali are requested if needed.
The typical length of stay is 2 to 3 weeks, with a maximum of 4 weeks. Discharge is planned as early as possible, depending on the patient’s condition.
Patients are encouraged to stay on their feet, wear their own clothes, and have their meals in the dining room.
Family members are encouraged to take patients for walks, drives, or home visits—with the approval of staff.
