The office of the National Electoral Commission is located at Tjarnargata 4, in Reykjavík.

Main tasks of the National Electoral Commission

• publish official notices on the preparation, conduct and timing of elections

• Prepare voting materials, except ballots for municipal elections.

• Provide information, education and guidance to the general public, candidates, the media, election boards and others involved in the conduct of elections.

• Cooperate and consult with relevant parties, organisations and institutions in the preparation and conduct of elections.

• Publish the results of elections,

• Supporting electoral research and the development of electoral initiatives.

• Provide the Minister and other authorities with advice on elections and make proposals to the Minister on the issue of regulations on the further implementation of individual provisions of this Act,

• take part in international co-operation relating to elections,

• Conduct other tasks related to the administration of elections in accordance with provisions or other laws.
