Services
The ADHD Mental Health Team provides secondary-level services for individuals aged 18 and older nationwide.
The team specializes in the assessment and treatment of the neurodevelopmental disorder attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Only referrals from family practitioners are accepted.
The fee for ADHD assessment and/or services provided by the team is 29.223 ISK regardless of the number of visits.
The first step is to book an appointment with your health center and submit the required supporting documentation.
If an ADHD diagnosis made in childhood needs to be reassessed all documentation related to the previous diagnosis must be provided if it is not already available in your medical record.
If you were diagnosed and received medication treatment in adulthood but your prescription is no longer valid and requires reassessment, a medical letter from your previous provider and/or supporting documentation is required so that continued care within the ADHD Team can be evaluated.
The ADHD Mental Health Team does not accept or assess reports from independently practicing healthcare professionals.
Supporting documentation
For referrals related to an initial adult ADHD assessment or reassessment of a childhood diagnosis to be considered complete, the following documentation must be included:
Behaviour rating scales A and B - Self evaluation
Behaviour rating scales C and D - Family member/s or friend/s
If no family member or close contact is available to complete behavioral rating scales C and/or D please make sure you inform the team.
The service is based on the expertise of the team’s professionals, interdisciplinary collaboration within the team, and cooperation with partners at other levels of the healthcare system.
The composition of professional disciplines may vary, but most commonly includes psychiatrists, nurses, and psychologists.
The team also provides consultation and education to professionals.
The role of the ADHD Mental Health Team is to:
Conduct initial assessment and treatment for ADHD in adults.
Reassess ADHD diagnoses made in childhood.
Reassess ADHD treatment in adulthood when there has been a break in care or when prescriptions have expired.
Provide evaluations for the continuation of ADHD medication for individuals moving to Iceland who have an existing ADHD diagnosis and treatment plan.
The team evaluates ADHD symptoms across the lifespan to map challenges and impairments.
Our goals are to:
Ensure that the diagnostic process involves observations, testing, interviews, and information gathering by an interdisciplinary team with specialized expertise in ADHD.
Ensure that the diagnosis maps both strengths and weaknesses in the context of environmental factors.
Ensure that the purpose of the assessment is to determine whether the client has deviations, how impairing they are, and which interventions may be helpful.
Promote access to interventions that support the client’s functioning in work or studies, relationships, social connections, leisure and hobbies, as well as self-confidence and self-esteem.
