The map viewer is intended to provide information for anyone interested in exploring the status of electronic communications infrastructure in Iceland, whether concerning fixed-line connectivity for households and businesses (e.g. fibre) or the nationwide roll out of mobile networks. The map viewer enables users to examine, among other things:

• Fixed network availability at specific locations (households and businesses), where coverage is shown as points representing locations across the country, colour-coded according to the quality of fixed network access.

• Mobile network availability, where coverage maps illustrate the quality of mobile connectivity at specific locations.

• 4G and 5G coverage, presenting a combined estimated coverage of all mobile operators. Coverage is based on the results of propagation models that estimate signal strength using transmitter location and characteristics, terrain, measurements, and other factors that may influence mobile signal distribution.

Data in the map viewer is largely provided by electronic communications operators and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
