Lumpfish fishing season is drawing near its end

Saturday the 12th of August will be the last day for Lumpfish fishing apart from inner Breiðafjörður where it is allowed until the 31st of August.

There were 174 lumpfish licenses issued through a new application system. We are glad to report that lump fishers did great with the new application system and issues that occured where minor. In the beginning the licenses permitted fishing for 25 days, but with a changes in regulation it was prolonged to 35 days and then again to 45. 

The catch is now close to 3,800 tons and has been landed in 35 ports across Iceland.

The top ports were: 

  • Stykkishólmur with 760 tons   

  • Drangsnes with 340 tons 

  • Patreksfjörður with 240 tons. 

The fishing vessels that caught the most were:  

  • Fjóla SH 7 (2040) with about 70 tons,  

  • Magnús HU 23 (2813) with 68 tons  

  • Sigurey ST22 (1774) with about 67 tons.
