Firearm used on the Directorate of Fisheries Remotely Piloted Aircraft

Shot were fired at a Remotely Piloted Aircraft being used for monitoring by a Fisheries inspector yesterday.
Crewmember of a ship that the Remotely Piloted Aircraft flew over entered the wheelhouse of the ship and grabbed a firearm when he noticed the Remotely Piloted Aircraft and fired three shots towards it. The Fisheries Inspector turned on the Remotely Piloted Aircrafts recording device after the shooting started and captured the act on video.
The incident was reported to the police which arrived at the port upon landing of the ship and the Directorate of Fisheries also contacted the Icelandic Coast Guard, who responded quickly and effectively. The Icelandic Coast Guard also contacted the police and a police detective took statements at the scene.
The Directorate of Fisheries views the incident very seriously and considers it a major threat to the work and safety of fisheries inspectors. Firing a shotgun at a Directorate of Fisheries Remotely Piloted Aircraft may be considered an offense against the government under the 1st paragraph of Article 106 of the General Penal Code in addition to violations of the Weapons Act. By this conduct, a Fisheries Inspector was obstructed in the performance of his duties by serious and threatening actions. The Directorate of Fisheries will follow up the matter by pressing charges against the crew members with the police.
